EPC MORE THAN JUST CERTIFICATE :
Government of India, has always tried to understand the problem of Exporter & Importers. This is reason, Export promotion council & Commodity Board and export development authorities are set up. Almost, all the products exported from India, are taken care by some or other Export promotion council. Normally, exporters think this organization is to issue RCMC. The custom agent / CHA / Export consultant ask for RCMC to avail export incentive, and exporter pay some fees and get the RCMC with out being aware, how Exporter can benefit from Export promotion council.
You don't need to register and take certificate from any EPC, you can read How to start export and profit from it, and know when you need to register in EPC but, as you are here read below and use it for your Export market analysis. Here you will get EXPORT DATA FOR FREE, you can read how to register RCMC and minimum cost
Why you need Registration cum Membership certificate (RCMC)?
The full form it self tells you What is RCMC. It is Registration cum membership certificate for particular valid organisation that prompts export of product in your category. As many of you would know, this certificate is required to be submitted while you export the goods, IF you want to avail export incentives. Why i write in bold, because, RCMC is not compulsory for all the product. Yes for few selected products, you need to have the certificate. But not for all. If you are 1st time exporter or yearly exports are of small value, then the fees for RCMC would he higher than incentive, so you can skip RCMC till you have good amount of export.
This article is not above RCMC, I have discussed separately, and given you procedure to get RCMC at minimum cost. This article is about BENEFIT OF EXPORT PROMOTION COUNCIL.
I have given list of Export promotion council below, along with address and website. I have taken lot of pain, to check each and every website and tried to give you correct address & contact details. As mentioned in my notes below, many website and even DGFT website did not have updated details of all EPC. Thus, you can guess, why did i take so much effort to give you correct details, while most website would copy paste as per DGFT.
Do you know, every product is related to particular EPC. Normally, the Export Agent, or Export consultant will tell you FIEO or xyz EPC has low fees so let us register with them. Their is Leather EPC, Engineering EPC, For textile and Garment there are so many, Apperal EPC, Cotton EPC, Handloom EPC, Power loom epc, Syntactic & Rayon EPC. etc you can read all bellow :
- They collect export / Import data for each product segment, which you can get.
- Base on export data, most EPC award best exporter award, this increase your customer trust.
- This will be required to give you rating. Benefit of Star rating for Exporter can be discussed separately. This gives trust factor for gov. on your company and their is ease of exports.
- Publish members directory, list of registered manufacturer & exporter for products. This help you to know, who are your competitors. (You will know if you have read - Export market survey & Competitor analysis)
- Merchant exporter can get list of good supplier for the product range.
- Each EPC has Trade inquiry that they receive on website or from Embassy etc.
- Export promotion activity - Exhibition, Buyer seller meet etc.
- Many EPC have publication, you are updated about market survey, update on government policy change, Free trade agreement etc.
If you have read Procedure for Export market survey, Export market analysis, Lead generation for exports, Find buyers for exports, Develop export business, you will get more input of how to use and benefit of export promotion council.

About EPC from their website :
Silk EPC (Export Policy Council) is a grass roots organization that promotes environmentally sound production of silks and silk byproducts. We choose to believe that these fabrics should not be lost because they may not be as “eco-friendly” produced as other materials, but rather celebrated and preserved for the rich history and beautiful art that is created for the whole world to enjoy. From the brilliant artisans who work with these fabrics, to the farmers who keep the cocoons, and to the weavers who spin this strongest of threads we owe a sense of appreciation and respect that money can’t buy.
Our goal is to foster relations with eco-friendly entities in the main silk producing regions of the world. Working with indigenous people and their governments in fair trade agreements is a win-win for all of us.
